AgriSearch will hold a GrassCheck Dairy farm walk on the farm of Brian, Lynne and Ewan McCracken in the Craigantlet Hills overlooking Newtownards on Tuesday 5th August at 12.30pm. The McCracken’s farm 360 acres of owned and conacre land, with 230 spring calving New Zealand Friesian and Kiwi-cross cows plus replacement heifers.
The farm is in a dry area and the soils are generally free-draining but shallow. However, it runs from 420ft to 720ft above sea level, so there is a limit to the amount of grass the farm can grow.
The farm walk will discuss how the McCracken’s use weekly grass measurement and budgeting to drive their herd’s performance and maximise profit.
All are welcome to attend. Pre-registration is not required.
