Research results of real relevance to producers will be displayed and discussed on the AgriSearch stand at the Royal Ulster Winter Fair at the Eikon Complex, Balmoral Park Thurs, Dec, 12.
Research topics featured on the stand will include calf rearing, robotic milking and winter feeding.
A comprehensive calf rearing guide will be launched at the show. This booklet has been developed in conjunction with AFBI and draws on the results of research undertaken at AFBI Hillsborough and on farms across Northern Ireland. The booklet covers a wide range of topics including: importance of colostrum, common calfhood diseases, pre and post-wean nutrition and calf housing. Copies of the booklet will be available for farmers to take away on the day.
In recent years there has been a significant increase in the use of robotic dairy systems in Northern Ireland. However, there is a limited independent research in this area. Recently AFBI has installed a robot milking machine on the dairy platform at Hillsborough. Details of an exciting new study on robotic milking systems funded by DAERA and AgriSearch will be featured on the stand.
The AgriSearch team and AFBI scientists will be welcoming visitors onto the stand throughout the day.
