Following on from the joint CAFRE/AFBI/AgriSearch beef event held at AFBI Hillsborough last year, Greenmount’s Abbey farm will be the venue for another joint event “Beef, growing performance.”

The events will run from 2pm to 4pm and 5pm to 6.30pm with tours starting every 15-30 minutes and will last for approximately 2 hours. Overshoes will be provided but please wear clean clothing not normally worn on your farm.

Weather, currency, EU support and commodity prices have combined to create a perfect storm this year. Unfortunately we have little control of any of these issues but there are many important areas that can be influenced by management. At this event CAFRE and AFBI speakers will concentrate on suckler cow fertility, replacement heifer management, herd health, grassland management, identifying and alleviating soil compaction and reducing winter feed costs for suckler cows, store and finishing cattle.

The events will run from 2pm to 4pm and 5pm to 6.30pm with tours starting every 15-30 minutes and will last for approximately 2 hours. Overshoes will be provided but please wear clean clothing not normally worn on your farm.

There will be suckler cows with spring born Stabiliser calves, store cattle from Glenwherry hill farm, replacement heifers on display plus a working subsoiler demonstration.

On-site catering will be available on the day and there will also be some relevant static displays.

I hope you will find this event helpful and informative and that you will be able to implement some of technologies demonstrated on your own farms.
